Life's a Pitch SB2 : Social Media Design Development

This group work was extremely difficult due to not refining the brand guidelines and sticking to them due to members of the group constantly changing their opinion. The colour scheme was altered several times and again just before the pitch due to disagreements within the group. The yellow and black was simplistic and effectively visualised the idea. Whereas the green pink and orange minimal style did not effectively represent the playfulness of a workshop held by students.

The green pink and orange would perhaps have been more suitable for a more professional workshop with a professional designer or tutor. Due to some members being less accepting of this the solution was to incorporate the other typeface into the brand for body text and using a single colour and black and white printing for necessary merchandise. This worked well due to being more cost effective than printing in colour.

Life's a Pitch SB2 : Social Media Initial Ideas

Content
- Borders of same colour
- Example flags
- Spread out logo across square Instagram format
- Make some gifs
- Existing student work

Developed

Initial ideas were inspired by existing social media accounts format. This is achieved by spreading out the image across the 3x3 square grid within Instagram. This format means an image or type can be enlarged across the layout making the account more impactful and eye catching at a glance.

During this stage content was also considered as this is an important way of engaging the audience. This included gifs as a more interesting way to show student work. By posting existing student work this also aims to spark inspiration amongst workshop attendees. Posting existing examples of work also offers students insight as to what they can come away with.

The colour scheme was undecided at this stage but experimentation with gifs and possible filters added to these gifs offered room for development. Initially the pink colour scheme was selected as it referenced the brain part of the logo visualising the thought process within ideation. However the brand guidelines should have been refined and confirmed with all members of the group so this was agreed before designs were created unfortunately that was the pitfall of this group project.

Life's a Pitch SB2 : Writing The Brief

The format of the brief was inspired and visually references the format of existing University brief's. Although the brief was further developed visually by using the brand colours so the brief fits the brand guidelines. The grey was used for body text and the light pink to highlight the headings. Using the brand colours worked effectively in producing a more well considered brief and visual outcome.

Life's a Pitch SB2 : Feedback & Developing the Idea

Consider the following:

When would this workshop take place?
Wednesday before UCAS deadline

What materials will be used?

Will there be a brief?

What are you doing in this workshop?

What do they get from it?

Make it different to foundation?

Want to encourage people to go back to it - continue learning practice on the course

There is an overview but no practical approach as an intro to Graphic Design

How can you interact with audience and communicate this through the pitch?

Rational: The students will be set a brief at the start of the day to create some initial ideas for a flag based on a subject of their choice. A few subjects will be suggested. The workshop will focus on the research and idea generation part of a brief. The end result should be that a student will go away with three or more developed initial ideas and a clearer idea of how to present their design process for an interview.
