Toronto International Film Festival
Is also a highly recognised film festival and one of the largest publicly attended film festivals in the world. The festival runs again annually and attracts up to 480,000 people. It was founded in 1976 and is normally hosted in the Tiff Bell Lightbox a dynamic centre for film and culture. The presentation of the festival includes an interactive gallery, new film releases and live film events. Although the festival began as The Toronto Festival of Festivals, collecting films from existing film festivals to show to keen viewers which I found very interesting as this is the concept mainly behind our film festival brand.
Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes Festival is also very popular and well known by most. It is obvious from the name where the festival is held in Cannes, France. This festival previews all genres of film. The festival was originally founded in 1946. Although the festival is (invitation only) the event is usually held during May usually at Palais des Festivals et des Congres. In 2017 there were celebrations for the 70th Anniversary of the festival. During the early days the Cannes film festival was a way the french could compete against the Venice Film Festival.
Berlin International Film Festival
Another well known festival also known as Berlinale with an outstanding reputation for good media events. The festival is again held annually in Berlin, Germany. The festival has been celebrated on an anual basis since it was founded in 1978. "300,000 tickets are often sold with up to 500,000 admissions." With the largest variety of films shown, up to 400 films shown in sections having a film to suit everyone it's obvious as to why the festival is so popular.
Venice Film Festival
Originally founded in 1932 this well known festival is one of the oldest in history. The festival often takes place late August or early September on Lido Island in Venice, Italy. Screenings for the festival are old fashioned in some ways as they take place in the historical Palazzo Cinema. Already having had the 70th Anniversary the 75th Venice Film Festival is set to take place in August or early September 2018.
Tribeca Film Festival
A more modern film festival founded only in 2002, supposedly in response to the attacks on the World Trade Centre commonly known as 9/11. The festival has grown popular receiving up to 8000 film submissions and over 1000 screenings in 2006 and 2007. The festival consists of a variety of film genres again from documentaries, narrative features, short films and even family friendly films etc. Part of the festival also includes panel discussions with personalities of entertainment in order to showcase artists.
